The Story

During the time of Azalea’s Father, a new rule was imposed across the galaxies. The new power has imposed strict regulations among its subjects. There are rumors of disappearances and more sinister actions committed by the government, but nobody can confirm them.

The world of Stargazer takes place in the 81st century, long after humanity has gained a foothold in trans-galactic travel. During the millennia, humanity has encountered thousands of alien races amid the many neighboring galaxies. However, humanity and its allies have not maintained a linear narrative of constant expansion and growth. Modern technology has only been made available to the elite or larger causes, while the remaining population must make do with what they can find, no matter how old.

Many empires have risen and fallen throughout this time, and Earth itself no longer holds any nation remotely similar to what we know today. Since the 21st century, humanity has colonized many worlds, and Earth’s significance as mankind’s birthplace is now only a minor historical note.

Before the order, Azalea’s father worked with a small group of peacekeepers to maintain order and prosperity throughout the universe. They were not motivated by any one leader or government, but instead rallied around a common will, working to see to it that aid be rendered to the weak and oppressed. With her father now gone, Azalea is now ready to follow in his footsteps and step into her destiny.

Azalea

Age: 17 - born in 8180

Species: Human

Personality traits: Skilled, hard-working, dedicated, hot-headed

Backstory: Azalea lived in the galactic Ruby sector before her family was relocated to Palisade 16, when Azalea was 7 years old; her mother died the next year. At age 14, Azalea’s father vanished while seeking a signal that supposedly called for the re-organization of his former peacekeeping group.

After the disappearance of her father, Azalea raised her younger sister Lera with the aid of others detained at Palisade 16. Azalea is quite protective of her sister, always looking out for her and providing Lera with comfort in times of need. Although supportive of her father’s actions in the past, Azalea has grown resentful of the life she’s been given; she hides a grudge against him for leaving her and her sister behind.

Wanting to better her life, Azalea took to training herself in piloting the Stargazer in hidden sections of the city.

Lera

Age: 9 - born 8188

Species: Human

Personality traits: Intelligent, thoughtful, timid

Backstory: Lera was born and raised in Palisade 16. She is extremely intelligent, often reading any book she can get her hands on in her free time (when she is not busy doing mandatory duties required by the city).

She aspires to be braver like her older sister, Azalea. Lera struggles at times to steel herself against her situation, but finds solace and bravery inspired by Azalea. Lera often wonders what her place is in everything, leaving her feeling quite fearful and nervous at times. Despite all of this, she may grow to be bolder than she could ever imagine.

Enforcers

Species: Robotic law enforcement

Personality traits: cold, ruthless, calculated

Backstory: Enforcers are the police force that patrol the city. They are feared, as they are quick to resort to lethal actions in order to uphold the law. They are fitted with some personality, but their general speech is very controlled.

The Stargazer

Species: cherished family spacecraft

Personality traits: methodical, professional

Backstory: The ship itself is a collection of re-purposed parts, fitted around a very old but very powerful engine. It has an on-board artificial intelligence system, which gives diagnostic information and important status updates.

After the Stargazer was recovered by those sympathetic to the rebellion and returned to Azalea, the A.I. assisted Azalea in reconstruction and repairs. It is said that the Stargazer contains an exponential leap drive, an impossible propulsion device that can take spacecrafts to any portion of the universe in mere moments (if it’s in the hands of a capable pilot, that is). It is believed the leap drive was built long before the Stargazer actually existed. Oddly, the leap drive’s source of power is entirely unknown, and mechanical inspection reveals no significant power sources within the engines.
